Don't let mosquitoes breed in your rain barrel. Treat your Aquabarrel® rain barrel with Mosquito Bits® or Mosquito Dunks®. These EPA-approved, all-natural products kill baby mosquitoes in the water, before they’re old enough to bite. Mosquito Bits® and Mosquito Dunks® release “B.t.i” (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis bacteria) into the water. B.t.i. is harmless to people, fish, birds, pets, and other animals, but deadly—and delicious—to baby mosquitoes (larvae).

Mosquito Dunks® and Mosquito Bits®, when wet, release a biological larvicide that is eaten by the baby mosquitoes (larvae). Mosquito larvae that eat the larvicide are dead within 24 hours. These products are effective even after repeated wetting and drying.

Aquabarrel® suggests that the Mosquito Bits® be used in the Aquabarrel® rain barrel. The large overflow port will allow the Mosquito Dunk® to float out unless tied or staked inside the barrel. Aquabarrel users find it much easier to drop in a small amount of Mosquito Bits® after a rain storm.

Mosquito Dunks® and Bits® also prevent mosquito infestations (the source of West Nile and Eastern equine encephalitis) from developing in other sources of standing water, such as compost piles, rain gardens, bird baths, flower pots, tree holes, water gardens, roof gutters, and animal watering troughs.
